The idea of releasing their album “Charango Cholo” came out of the need to share almost twenty years of research, investigation, and the “rescue” of traditional Peruvian music. The album includes traditional Andean music dedicated to its natural Peruvian audience but meant to give access to this music to Latin America and the world.
The goal of Los Cholos is to treat the Peruvian sound with the respect that it deserves in order to establish its rightful place in the repertoires of world music.
What makes Los Cholos unique is their approach. They set out to rescue Andean sounds and music in a massive discovery effort that involves anonymous authors as well as renowned composers.
In the Andean world of music in particular, the “charango” reveals the idiosyncratic sadness and joy of Peru as expressed in a maelstrom of its many rhythms. One cannot help but be moved by its authenticity.
